Tell a short story - this timeless approach to engaging and maintaining your audience’s attention ensures they read the entirety of article. How does it end? As we built up towards final sales of our Deep Dive Italy event, I started to focus in on the lives of individuals throughout wine regions we’d be representing and tell a short, gripping tale of their experiences in a paragraph or two. I’ve always monitored viewership and click performance and the effectiveness of this approach led to positive results beyond my own expectations. Below are a few examples of the Deep Dive promotional campaign known as “Diving Deeper” along with some graphics and ads from recent years.
DIVING DEEPER: A WAR IN THE HEAVENS AND GRAPES GROWN FROM THE TEARS OF GOD
It is said that Dante and his angel uprising took place over Mt. Vesuvius. God, so pained by watching his angels in brutal battle, shed tears which fell upon the great volcano below. Where the fertile tears landed, grape vines grew. To this day these vines grow on the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius and, to honor their mythical origins, are known as Lacryma Christi Del Vesuvio or The Tears of God / Christ. We are honored to have one of the great producers of Campania’s historic wines, Mastroberardino, offering Lacryma Christi Del Vesuvio Rosso. Alongside these unbelievably unique wines, Aglianico (also known as “the Barolo of the South”) will be represented from its famous home region of Taurasi. Alongside Mastroberardino, Nativ, a small winery run by two sisters, will be attending and showcasing Aglianico from the lowlands of Campania all the way up to the foothills of Dormant Volcanoes. These two wineries are an exceptional showcase of grapes rarely seen on store shelves. Please try to make a stop by these two wineries during your visit!
Deep Dive Italy may be our best wine tasting yet and always sells out. Grab your tickets sooner than later!
DIVING DEEPER: THE LAST NIGHT OF THE SANGLIER
“What have I done?” Gaspar curled into the darkest corner of his tiny abode. He and his family’s home for five generations now was hit by shrill gusts against its stone walls and the sounds of his rolling mourvèdre vineyards beaten by the rush of wind. He remembered years of tending the dark rich mourvèdre vineyards known to make some of the finest rosé in the world alongside his father and grandfather under the bright Mediterranean sun. These weren’t normal rosés. They could age for years and only improve. The thick fall of inhuman footsteps broke Gaspar’s daydream. Deep, horrific impacts in the muddy clay soils slowly plodded the perimeter of the house. “It must end here!” Gaspar suddenly took flight, throwing open the door and running into the piercing storm. One glance back illuminated by a powerful lightning strike made clear that his deepest fears were true. It had come and it would destroy everything he knew. Gaspar shielded his eyes as grape vines whipped against him. These vines that had become known for mourvèdre in its most pure red wine expression, thick and heady with primal, earthy tones, savory and all but infinitely ageable. This was his legacy. The old wooden shed doors shrieked open as Gaspar pushed through and readied himself with a bow and arrow. This would be the last night of the Sanglier.
DIVING DEEPER: BURGUNDY, A FOREST FOR THE VINES
Cistercian monks believed their hard work brought them closer to God. I feel similarly with a glass of golden Chardonnay or ruby-stained lips from earthen, cherried Pinot Noir. From wild forest vines, the first cultivations of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were created. Each bottle like a love letter to terroir, telling generations old stories of winemakers who have poured their lives into upholding the traditions of the region. There is only so much to be said in so few words about a place which produces such a diverse profile of wines from only a handful of varietals. I urge you to let the wine speak for itself and come see Burgundy in all its glory while we Dive Deeper into France.
